Charter Fishing off the East Cape

We were up before dawn, breakfast gone, Tea in hand and out on the Sea of Cortez with a captain, a deckhand, and two friends. We made two brief stops for live bait; Sardines and bigger bait. Of course the wallet comes out for the bait but hey, you are in Mexico. The fish come over in a net and the money goes back in a net.
Each group of guests chose what they wanted to fish for and that determined where the boat was going and how much of what type of bait was needed. Our most popular fishing options for the area were Marlin, Tuna, Dorado, Rooster, Rock fish, and Sea Bass. We wanted tuna which was going to be a two hour boat ride south towards the East Cape and the second reef. There were a few boats there but not overly crowded.
The sun was out, the cooler full and live bait on the hook. It didn’t take long for the fish to start biting. Tuna and a smaller version, the Bonita, struck throughout the day. With a Mexican fishing license a person can catch 5 tuna per day.  Then it’s on to other species. We had our limit by one o’clock and started back towards Palmas de Cortez and a closer reef which had Dorado and Marlin. Watching Marlin swim by is visually amazing; having one on the line is another type of experience all together. Watching baby turtles scramble for the sea is heartfelt.  http://davidcdagley.com/
