I’ve been home in Alaska for a couple weeks now from Indonesia and the Mentawai Islands and Orangutans and there is no time to waste. Summer solstice rapidly approaches and there are more things to do than there is time.

The snow was late to leave, the Red salmon are beginning to run, the moose are skittish of the brown bears which are showing up in droves, and the swans are building nests as fast as possible.
I’m remodeling a house in down town Seward for future rentals and building custom furniture in my 'spare' time. Ha! Here's an end table; kind of retro 'Art Deco'.
Meanwhile, others find themselves in the same position. I was called on by Orca Island Cabin owners to come help put in a bridge from the island to the mainland. I ran into Susan, the owner, at the hardware store and she mentioned they were having problems getting the bridge into place. Without blinking, I told her to put in a static line. Susan mentioned it to her husband and crew and they all nodded, yeah, a static line. It’s not too far, maybe 80 feet. The bridge was engineered and brought out in two pieces and static lined into place. The bridge is going in because at high tide this space is used by kayaks and animals and Dennis and Susan wanted to keep the space free and clear.

It was nice to be out at Orca Island and seeing the changes that have taken place since I put in the first yurt; now there are five and Orca Island Cabins is getting great reviews by guests. I advise you, if you're interested, to book a year in advance or call for more information.
